I enjoyed reading your blog. Blogging is new for me and I was impressed with how you introduced the idea with your students first by paper blogging. I am part of a 1:1 computing program and I would love to get my students blogging as well. I am going to check out Kidblogs!

Hello,

I am working on a textbook on the use of technology in music education, and I would like to use one of your photos in my book. The image is located at http://dayintheclassroom.edublogs.org/files/2011/01/Stack-of-Ipads-1vl2mjn.JPG, and shows a stack of iPads in boxes.

Please let me know if I can use your photo, and if so, how you would like me to cite the photo.

Sincerely,

Chris Russell

What a great idea, I love the idea of that wheel I will definitely make one for my new class this year. I also use paddle pop sticks with the kids names on them, pulling two out together to create random pairs or groups. I also use a pack of playing cards often these days, each card has a child's name on it and I keep them in my hand to use to either create groups or ask random kids questions, I find it stops the know it all always getting in first.

I sort my chapter books by fountas and pinnell reading levels so kids read at their instructional level I then have one set of shelves for nonfiction- lots of picture books and guiness wOrld records. Other set of shelves is fiction picture books. Unfortunately just not enough time to sit and read, especially when gr4 need chapter books. I also invite kids to borrow books at home but they don't usually take me up on it.

We use our iPads to blog on our Kidblogs accounts. Just make sure the blog is set to the html setting. If you teach math, I also got my students working on the http://tenmarks.com website. This also works with iPads. We sometimes use our iPads to write on Lino it which is a virtual bulletin board. I have used this for book discussions and class discussions. Since I have had issues being able to print from the iPads, I frequently use Google Docs. Sometimes I embed a Google form onto our wiki with questions that the students respond to. Last week we took a writing assessment. I set up a Google Document for each student to write on. I put a link to the document on our class wiki, so students could get to the document. Of course my students love using the apps, but I am less enthused than other people are about the apps. In my view, apps make kids consumers of content, and I prefer that my students are creators of content. Good luck with your proposal.

I enjoyed your page. I am putting together a proposal to be the 1:1 ipad pilot team so I have been looking for ways to incorporate ipads into my instruction (not just for research). I love your paper blog idea. It really shows the students what blogging is. I think this is as good as the real thing only much more time consuming. I'm looking for ways to use the ipads for journalling and for interdisciplinary activities. Deadline is 11/1 and we'll know 11/7! In the meantime we have the students comment on our Wikipage and it serves as a message board for the school home connection.
